Leverage trading uses leveraged "derivative" financial products. This means you are speculating the rising or falling prices of an underlying asset without owning, buying, selling, or having any rights to the underlying asset itself.
Unlike spot trading, where when you buy a crypto asset, you own the asset itself and can hold, swap, withdraw, or sell it.
How to access my crypto CFD leverage trading account
Your derivatives trading account will be accessible through your Swyftx spot trading account.
To access your derivatives trading account:
Log in to your Swyftx account on our web platform.
Select your circled initial in the top right corner.
Under Switch Platform, select Derivatives.
To switch back to your spot trading account, follow steps 1 and 2, then under Switch Platform, select Spot.
Trade sizes and available leverage
Minimum and maximum trade sizes vary by instrument and are available on the instrument information screen.
The maximum allowable trade size will also be dependent on your available margin at any given time.
Leverage
The minimum and maximum amount of leverage available changes per instrument and will be dependent on whether you are a wholesale or a retail investor. Wholesale accounts will still have access to higher leverage than retail accounts, but it will vary per asset.
You can find out how much leverage is available in the Instrument information section and through the Search function. Find the leverage amount for current open positions on the Derivatives platform homepage.
The difference between retail investors and wholesale investors
A wholesale investor is an individual or entity that meets specific criteria as defined under the Corporations Act 2001. One eligibility test includes:
Have a gross income of at least AUD 250,000 per year for the last two financial years, or
Holding AUD 2.5 million in net assets.
Wholesale investors are afforded less protections compared to retail investors due to their presumed ability to make more informed investment decisions.
A retail investor does not need to meet the same criteria as a wholesale investor. However, they will need to complete the application process outlined in our support article, Applying for a crypto & non-crypto asset leverage CFD account on Swyftx.
This application process includes providing evidence that you understand how leverage trading works and the risks involved with this product through an eligibility quiz, as well as sharing information about your current employment and financial circumstances.
